In Search of God's Promises

What is the one thing we do when we feel out of control in a situation? We grasp onto something stable, something we can lean on, something that will hold us up. When the ground is shifting we want something solid to stand on. This is a journey through the Bible in search of God's promises for us today. Let's look together to see how many "boulders" He has in His quarry for us to stand on! "It is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants." Rom. 9:8

Promise 4 from Exodus 3:7-8

Ex. 3:7-8 - "The Lord said, 'I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings. So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians...'." I just love this, He saw the affliction of His people and then He "came down" to do something about it. He came down out of compassion. You notice He didn't say He came down for the purpose of punishing the oppressors? He came down to deliver His people, to save them, then to give them gifts; the gift of a spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey. He came down to love on His people. Did you read earlier in verse 6? After He introduced Himself to Moses, Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God. I'm sure that one day, 40 years prior, when he killed the Egyptian, came flooding into his mind, I'm quite sure that his first thought was that God found him in his hiding place, the desert, and was now going to punish him. But did God even mention a word about Moses' past and the terrible thing he did? No, He just went on talking about how He was going to save His people, Moses being one of them, and to give them gifts. God is a compassionate God, He chooses even murderers to do His great works. He is not God, "the punisher" but God the "lover", the Sovereign One. He comes down to us and chooses us, hand picked, to be with Him. What a great God we have!
