In Search of God's Promises

What is the one thing we do when we feel out of control in a situation? We grasp onto something stable, something we can lean on, something that will hold us up. When the ground is shifting we want something solid to stand on. This is a journey through the Bible in search of God's promises for us today. Let's look together to see how many "boulders" He has in His quarry for us to stand on! "It is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants." Rom. 9:8

Promise 74 Gen. 30:22-23

"Then God remembered Rachel and God gave heed to her and opened her womb. So she conceived and bore a son and said, 'God has taken away my reproach.'" The whole story of Rachel and Leah's competition to win or keep Jacob's affection is a crazy one. Leah didn't end her campaign for Jacob with the birth of Judah, she gave her maid to him after Rachel gave hers to Jacob, then she bore a couple more kids. Not once in this story did it mention any of the women or Jacob going to God first and petitioning their concerns to Him, Rachel even blamed Jacob for not coming through for her. It's no wonder it took a while for God to remember Rachel and give her a child, they didn't pursue Him so that they would be on the foremost of His mind. But here is the blessing; No matter how many times we mess up and try to find solutions to our problems on our own, we aren't forgotten by God. Even if we don't immediately go to Him that doesn't mean He will withhold His blessings from us. Because there is nothing we can do to win His love or take it away, He gives it freely. But don't wait for Him to have to "remember" you, go to Him first.
